Derry Girls

I know I'm late to the party, but heck, here I am going to rave about the series. I can go on and on and on and on about the series. In my defense, I heard the series by the time it was released, made a mental note to watch, but never watched it. Until months ago I started reading Say Nothing  and halfway theroux the book I visited Belfast. Came back and thought, 'It is time to watch Derry Girls.' And everything was perfect.

The girls and the wee English fella

I finished everything so quickly and till now still very much invested in it. It is an unbelievably brilliant writing (I'm in no capacity to objectively judge TV writing) and the last time I was in awe in comedy writing was when I watched Fleabag (although in fairness, I don't watch that many series, my catalogs are too few maybe). It just so great on so many levels, you got the comedies, the drama, the emotional moments, and the Derry accent (because regional accent is awesome, although as a non English speaker, I would not survive without subtitles). How Lisa McGee was reluctant to write something involving The Troubles because she's so sick of it, but luckily she did write the stories using The Troubles as a backdrop because that's something that made the story even funnier and profound in my opinion. As a geriatric millennial, it was also so good to listen to songs from The Cranberries or The Corrs as soundtracks. Another thing that I am a fan of is the facts that all characters are strong and distinctive. There are five main characters, and you will remember each of them with their own characteristics while not forgetting the other characters that are also built beautifully you can't forget them. You can't even forget character that appears briefly like Carlos Santini.

Enough for now, but obviously this post will not be the only post about Derry Girls, I need to fangirl the show even more.
